The 7 Questions to Ask Before Booking Aura Photography for Your Wedding

Aura photography has become one of the most talked-about additions to wedding receptions in the last few years — and for good reason. It’s interactive, deeply personal, and gives every guest a one-of-a-kind keepsake that feels nothing like the usual party favor. But like any wedding vendor, the quality of the experience varies widely depending on who you book, what equipment they use, and how much thought they’ve put into logistics.

Before you sign a contract, here are the seven questions we recommend every couple ask a prospective aura photography vendor — along with what strong, confident answers look like.

1-What camera system do you use, and what does the output look like?

This is the most important starting question, and the answer tells you a lot. Some providers use analog Polaroid-style cameras, which produce a small instant-film print. Others use digital biofeedback imaging systems that produce larger, sharper prints and a digital file.

What a great answer looks like: A clear explanation of the technology, the print sizes available, whether a digital file is included, and a portfolio of actual sample portraits so you can judge the quality yourself.

2-How many guests can you serve per hour, and do you offer a dual setup?

For a wedding cocktail hour, throughput matters. If the line is twenty guests long and each session takes five minutes, people are going to give up and move on. Ask specifically how many guests the vendor can serve per hour under realistic event conditions — not theoretical maximum — and whether they offer a second simultaneous setup for larger guest counts.

What a great answer looks like: Specific numbers, not vague reassurances. A single-sensor setup should be able to handle 15–20 guests per hour with readings, or 35+ for photo-only. A dual setup doubles that capacity. At Aura Within Us, our dual setup serves up to 70 guests per hour with two trained experts on site.

3-Can you customize the prints and keepsake materials for our wedding?

A generic aura photo keepsake is nice. A keepsake with your wedding date, your names, and your event branding feels like it was made for your day. Ask whether the vendor can personalize the prints, the interpretation guides, or the packaging.

What a great answer looks like: The ability to add your names, date, or a custom phrase to the printed photograph itself (not just a sticker on the outside), customized keepsake guides at no extra charge, and the option for fully bespoke card stock or branded materials for an upgrade. This is an area where providers vary significantly — and where Aura Within Us is the only provider in the region that can digitally frame the aura photograph itself.

4-What does the guest experience look like from start to finish?

Ask for a detailed walkthrough of exactly what a guest experiences from the moment they step up to the booth to the moment they walk away. The flow should feel smooth, intentional, and personal — not rushed or generic.

What a great answer looks like: A clear 2–4 minute session structure: one minute seated for the portrait, one minute for the print to develop, one to two minutes for an expert reading that interprets the guest’s specific colors and energy zones. Every guest should leave having been spoken to personally, not just handed a color chart.

5-What’s included in your pricing, and what costs extra?

Aura photography pricing varies significantly by format. Make sure you understand exactly what’s included in the base quote and what constitutes an add-on. Common extras can include a second operator, a step-and-repeat backdrop, custom branding, or additional print sizes.

What a great answer looks like: A transparent, itemized breakdown. At Aura Within Us, for example, custom event labels on every keepsake guide are included in every package at no extra charge. A custom-designed step-and-repeat backdrop is available for a flat fee of $150. Pricing should be clear, not hidden.

6-Are you insured, and can you provide a COI?

Most wedding venues require proof of insurance from all vendors before they’ll allow setup. A certificate of insurance (COI) is standard practice for any professional event vendor — but not every aura photographer carries one.

What a great answer looks like: An immediate yes, with the ability to provide a COI and add the venue as an additional insured upon request. Aura Within Us carries $2 million in commercial general liability coverage, which meets or exceeds the requirements of virtually every wedding venue in the tri-state area.

7-What’s your setup footprint and what do you need from the venue?

Aura photography booths need a small but specific amount of space and power. Ask exactly what the vendor needs so you can share it with your venue coordinator without surprises.

What a great answer looks like: Specific dimensions, a grounded outlet requirement, and a clear answer on setup and breakdown time. At Aura Within Us, a single-sensor setup fits in a 6×6 foot footprint; dual sensor is 10×6. We need one grounded outlet, two to three chairs, and a small table. We arrive 60 minutes before your event starts and allow 60 minutes for breakdown.

One More Thing: Read the Reviews

Before booking any vendor, read their reviews on TheKnot, WeddingWire, Google, and Zola. Look for patterns: Do guests mention the reading was personal? Was the team professional and on time? Was the setup clean and the experience smooth? Reviews from actual wedding clients tell you more about the real experience than any sales page.
